What is actually on the shirt
R.I.P. is a prayer, and it is plural: requiescant in pace, may they rest. A soul being purified cannot ask for itself, so the prayers that reach it come from the living. The skulls, the cross and the flowers carry the difficulty and the beauty.
Join the families keeping Hallowtide the way the Church does, one feast at a time.
Wearing the year the Church keeps
The calendar is not decoration, and it is not only for inside a church. Wearing the feast on the day it falls puts you inside it, and gives whoever is standing next to you a reason to ask about it. A shirt goes to the school pickup and the grocery store, which is more than a holy card in a drawer ever does.
The dead need our prayers
All Souls is the day the Church prays for every soul in purgatory, the dead who are saved and not yet purified. They cannot pray for themselves, so the Church has always asked the living to pray for them, to have Masses offered for them and to visit their graves.
“This design focuses on the phrase ‘Requiescant in pace.’ It makes death a prayerful expression of faith in Christ’s mercy and the hope of eternal life.”
“The skulls, cross and flowers combine to show the beauty and difficulty of life and death, with the Holy Spirit providing consolation and the soul’s hope for eternal rest in God.”
